Our curriculum pathways

IGCSE (Years 10–11)

Students follow the internationally recognised IGCSE programme, building a strong platform for advanced study at top global universities.

Subject choices (see programme brochure) are guided carefully by our experienced staff, helping students select pathways that reflect their strengths, interests and ambitions. Our programme brochure gives further details.

This stage develops academic depth, resilience and the study skills needed for A level or IB Diploma study.

A levels or IB Diploma (Years 12–13)

Students choose between two world-class post-16 pathways: the Cambridge International A Level programme or the IB Diploma Programme; both prepare learners for university-level study and independent academic thinking.

With A levels, students typically study three subjects in depth, allowing focused preparation for university courses and careers. The IB Diploma offers a broader academic experience, with six subjects and core components that develop research, critical thinking and global perspective.

With both options available, Thames students can build highly personalised pathways aligned to their future ambitions.

British best practice exam preparation

One of the clearest differences families notice at Thames is our commitment to structured UK-style exam preparation.

We know students perform best when they are fully focused, so during exam periods we suspend normal lesson timetables and prioritise revision, wellbeing and performance readiness.

Students benefit from:

  • Focused revision sessions built around past papers, led by subject teachers
  • Warm-up sessions before key examinations
  • Teacher mentoring and targeted support
  • Timetable adjustments designed to reduce pressure and maximise preparation time
  • This structured approach ensures students enter exams with confidence, clarity and strong academic readiness.

When exams are over, learning continues with purpose. Year 11 students move into an enriched transition programme featuring A Level and IB taster lessons, subject guidance meetings and next-step preparation. Senior students preparing for graduation benefit from university visits and activities that support their move into higher education.

Learning Conversations, reporting & personal progress

We believe students make the strongest progress when school and home work in partnership.
Our Learning Conversations are dedicated meetings that bring students, parents and teachers together to review achievement, discuss wellbeing, celebrate successes and plan meaningful next steps.

These meetings create meaningful opportunities for open dialogue, ensuring every student feels seen, heard, valued and supported to take ownership of their journey.

During Learning Conversations:

  • All students complete an Action Plan outlining subject targets, priorities and strategies for improvement
  • Teachers provide clear academic guidance and next-step recommendations
  • Parents share insights, ask questions and contribute to future planning
  • Students with ILPs review personalised goals and the support in place to help them succeed
  • Families, students and staff work together to strengthen the partnership between home and school

Alongside regular reporting, Learning Conversations ensure progress is understood, celebrated and continually supported.

Personal and academic growth

Life at Thames High School extends far beyond the classroom.

As one of only three Duke of Edinburgh-accredited schools in Poland, and as a UNESCO-accredited school we offer students rich opportunities to explore their interests, develop leadership, and engage with global issues. Through our partnership with Coventry University Warsaw, learners can also take part in online courses and university visits that broaden their academic horizons.

Parent voice shapes school life at Thames

At Thames, partnership with families is central to student outcomes and school improvement.

We actively listen to parents and create regular opportunities for honest, constructive dialogue. Our popular bi-monthly Coffee Mornings with the Head bring parents together in a positive, solutions-focused setting to discuss what is working well, or requires attention, wellbeing and upcoming events or ideas.

These conversations have led directly to meaningful improvements, including the creation of our Parent Hub.
The Parent Hub is a dedicated online space where families can quickly access key information such as school updates, events, contacts and policy guidance—making communication simpler and strengthening the home-school partnership.
